I am currently a K-5 STEAM Resource teacher in Florida and I LOVE my job! Every day I start my classes with a big smile and positive energy. I want to motivate my students to love learning, learn that they can solve real-world problems, be curious about the world around them, AND know that I truly care about them.
Teaching Experience
I have been teaching for 16 years and I am currently a K-5 STEAM Resource teacher. Before becoming a STEAM teacher, I taught third, fourth, and fifth grades (all subjects). Science and math were always my favorite subjects to teach in the general education classroom because….
Work Experience
I was a research scientist for almost 17 years before becoming a teacher. I really enjoyed working in the labs and had the opportunity to travel and learn from some amazing, innovative scientists from around the world. I love bringing my passion for science, math, and engineering to my students.
Educational Background
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Natural Sciences, and a Master of Arts in Cosmetic Chemistry. Twenty years after finishing college the first time, I went back to school for additional coursework to become certified to teach K-6 in Florida. I bring my love of all things science to my students and my school community. I have a passion for education and love to use my background in science to engage and inspire my students to be curious about the world around them.
Personal Life
I have been married for 25+ years and we have two children who are not children anymore. We have an old cat who is quite photogenic and very vocal when she is hungry. I love to cook – my dream is to be on a cooking challenge show one day, I love to read (it’s a serious addiction but a healthy one), and I love to travel.
